What is Reiki?

Reiki (霊気) is a traditional Japanese practice that nurtures the natural flow of life energy.

The word Rei (霊) can be understood as "universal" or "spiritual," while Ki (気) refers to the vital energy present in all living beings. Together, Reiki is often translated as universal life energy, but beyond its name, Reiki is a gentle practice of supporting the body's natural balance.

My teacher, Atsushi Kubo sensei, often compared Reiki to watering a plant. We do not force a plant to grow—we simply provide the conditions it needs to flourish. In the same way, Reiki is not about fixing or controlling the body. It is about supporting the natural flow of life energy, creating the conditions in which body, mind, and spirit can return to their own balance.

For some people, Reiki is a deeply restorative experience. For others, it offers clarity, inspiration, emotional healing, or a quiet space to reconnect with themselves. Each experience is unique, because each person comes with different needs.

At its deepest level, Reiki is also a spiritual practice. Like yoga, it invites us to return to our true nature and to live with greater awareness, compassion, and freedom. Whether you come seeking rest, healing, guidance, or spiritual growth, you are warmly welcome exactly as you are.

The way I practice has been deeply shaped by my teacher, Atsushi Kubo sensei, whose emphasis on kindness, humility, and presence continues to inspire every session I offer.

Traditional Japanese Reiki

My practice is rooted in the Traditional Japanese Reiki lineage of Chujiro Hayashi. I received my Reiki training from my teacher, Atsushi Kubo sensei, whose teachings continue to shape the way I practice and share Reiki.

In this tradition, Reiki is more than a treatment—it is a lifelong practice of cultivating presence, awareness, and compassion. While Reiki may support relaxation, healing, or personal growth, it is also a path of spiritual cultivation, inviting us to return to our natural state.

My sessions are offered with a gentle, hands-off approach, creating a space where you can feel safe, respected, and free to simply be. Rather than focusing only on techniques or protocols, I value quiet presence, meditation, and meeting each person with kindness, just as I was taught.

FAQ

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows you to relax easily. Natural fabrics such as cotton or linen are recommended whenever possible.

Please avoid tight clothing, belts, or jeans, as they may restrict your comfort during the session.

Will I be touched?

My practice follows a hands-off approach.

You will remain fully clothed throughout the session while Reiki is offered without physical touch.

Can Reiki replace medical treatment?

No. Reiki is a complementary practice and is not intended to diagnose, treat, or replace medical or psychological care.

If you have concerns about your health, please consult an appropriate healthcare professional.

Do I need previous experience?

No. Reiki is suitable for beginners and experienced practitioners alike.

What can I expect during a session?

Reiki is not about creating a particular experience or achieving a specific outcome. It is an opportunity to pause, become present, and support your body's natural balance. Some people notice physical sensations, while others simply experience a deep sense of rest.

How should I prepare before a session?

Please arrive a few minutes early so you can settle in. If possible, avoid alcohol and other intoxicating substances before your session, and try not to come on a completely full stomach. Coming with a clear body and mind supports a more restful experience.
